The organisation Ösel Bangladesh proposes an educational institute set in the outdoors, which integrates the latest scientific findings about development of the mind with mindfulness techniques and training in nature to empower adolescent girls.
The mission of Ösel, Bangladesh is to develop vital education programs and outdoor training for marginalized/underserved adolescent girls in Bangladesh, empowering them to confidently choose lifestyles beyond traditional gender roles. Challenging experiences in the outdoors can leave a lasting impact upon a young person’s intellectual, physical, spiritual, social and moral development.
Ösel believes in experiential learning, thus the curriculum includes customized courses in the science of human mind, through art, backpacking, camping, trekking, climbing, and other activities in nature while focusing on character building, engaged living, leadership, social activism, service and building empathy for humanity. Methods used include skills-focused learning, problem solving, team building and self-reliant journeys and activities, always with an environmental focus.
It contributes to personal growth and social awareness and develops skills for life and the world of work. Qualities such as a sense of responsibility and a purpose in life are nurtured powerfully at this stage. There is also a great deal of intrinsic enjoyment and satisfaction to be experienced from participation in outdoor activities. It is a conscious movement to conserve and bring balance to Mother Earth through empowering women to harness their inner luminosity!
